| This is a legendary yellow tea originating from the mist-shrouded mountain of Meng Ding in the Sichuan province, whose name can be loosely translated into English as Yellow shoots from Meng Ding mountain. This tea gained renown mainly for its medicinal properties and dates from the period of the reign of the Tang dynasty more than 1300 years ago. The province of Sichuan itself is considered the cradle of tea culture, and tea was cultivated here over 2000 years ago. Meng Ding Huang Ya is a very unusual tea with a limited annual production, in addition only a part of this can be exported from China. The tea is harvested at the beginning of spring and traditional procedures are used for its processing. Closed buds are seared in pans in small batches in order to halt the oxidation process, and are then placed in paper sacks where they are left to dry naturally. This process is repeated until its vegetable (grassy) character entirely disappears. The light yellow infusion offers a pure aroma and taste with nutty sub-tones, and its consumption is indisputably an exceptional tea drinking experience. |
