Great Red Robe from Wu Yi Mountain

The King of Teas of the five cliffs of Wu Yi mountain (prefectship of Nanping on the border of the provinces of Fujian and Jiangxi) in China. The only true and original Da Hong Pao, of which only a few kilograms are harvested each year. Legend has it that during the era of the Tang dynasty, the mother of the emperor was brought back to health from a serious illness by this tea, as evidence of which the emperor had the four original tea bushes covered in a large red robe. These bushes still grow on Wu Yi mountain, and are appropriately honoured. Cuttings from these bushes led to the creation of a range of imitations, which unfortunately are sold under the same name today. This tea is a legend, whose existence dates back to the beginning of the 18th century (Dao Guang), and during the reign of the Qing dynasty was given the title “King of all teas”. The tea has a full, dense taste of mountain Oolong, with a specifically sweet finish, and after a few small sips creates a floral aroma in the mouth, which lasts for several minutes, which few teas can achieve. The ideal location for cultivating Da Hong Pao tea bushes is a cliff with a sufficient layer of sandy earth, where the bush has access to sunlight filtered through mist and cloud, constant shade from the rock in the afternoon and constantly moist earth thanks to a pure mountain spring.
This was released for sale by the Chinese government in 1998, when a group of auctioneers paid almost 900 000 US dollars for it. In 1998 20 grams of tea from the mother Da Hong Pao tea plants was sold in the Wu Yi mountains. The starting price was 10 000 Chinese Renminbi (approx. 1 300 US dollars). A fierce competition took place between the several interested parties. Finally a businessman from the island of Macao purchased the tea for a price fifteen times higher than the original starting price, thus almost 20 000 US dollars. |

| Prepare tested water for the tea infusion with which you have experience, or use ordinary tap water which has been left standing for a sufficient period, preferably overnight, ideally rid of chlorine. Rinse the teapot and cups with hot water. Use approx. 3g of tea leaves (2 teaspoons) for each 150ml of infusion or to taste. Brew the necessary quantity of tea in hot water at a temperature of 90-95°C for a period of 60-90 seconds for the first and second infusions. With further infusions progressively extend the brewing time. For a full flavour it is necessary for the leaves to unfurl entirely. |

| Tady si dovolím trochu delší zhodnocení : Zdejší Da Hong Pao jsem porovnával zaroveň s 2 dalšími třídami tohoto čaje, jednou z nich byla běžná třída k dostání běžně v jakékoliv čajovně a druhou třídou bylo Da Hong Pao Ji Pin. Všechny třídy jsem připravoval metodou Gong Fu Cha, za stejných teplot vody a při stejné době louhování. Dle očekávání nejběžnější třída čaje vydržela nálevů opravdu málo a až přespříliš se tam objevovali trpké tóny, které celkově znehodnocovali chuť čaje. Ke zdejšímu Da Hong Pao: Vůně sušených listů je velice ovocná. Barva nálevu mi přišla o několik stupňů světlejší, místo tmavě oranžové zde vícero prosvítají žlutější tóny. V prvních nálevech je chuť plná, sladká a s mírným ovocným aftertastem. Po 3. nálevu vyvstává velice intezivní ovocná, sladká vůně, která je doprovázená silnou chutí s lehoučkým náznakem hořkosti, aftertaste zůstává stále stejně ovocný. V pátem nálevu chuť mírně ustupuje dozadu a dává vyniknout chvilkovému a velice výraznému aftertaste, v tu chvíli vám tělěm proudí pocit, jako byste se zakousli do broskve či snědli lžíci medu a doznívání jeho chuťových účinků. Zde je naškodu, že daný moment je velice krátký, trvající tak 1-2 vteřiny, přesto je to velice příjemná exploze chuti. S dalšími nálevy (6. a 7.) čaj svou chuť již nemění, prakticky doznívá aftertaste a zůstáva jen tmavě oranžová barva a vzpomínkou vám zůstává vůně mokrých lístků a ovoněný pokoj. Jedná se bezesporu o výborné Da Hong Pao, mít 10-ti místnou stupnici volil bych patrně 9/10 a to jen z důvodu, že Da Hong Pao Ji Pin je o nějaký stupeň lepší, při porovnání, se jeho cena pohybuje o přibližne 600 Kč výše. Zdejší Da Hong Pao a jeho cena je výborným způsobem jak ochutnat opravdu dobrou třídu, proto si 5 bodů patrně zaslouží.V tomto případě nelze udělat chybu, výborný čaj... |
